When I was in my mid-to late 30s, I suffered from chronic lower back pain. I did over 100 hours of PT and acupuncture and had chiropractic treatment, but nothing helped.
I contacted a physiatrist at HSS, who explained to me that my MRI did not show any severe lumbar issue. Subsequently, I had some soreness in my hip and right away the team at HSS told me that my back pain was likely a result of hip impingement seen on an x-ray.
I chose Dr. Ranawat due to his reputation and he examined me and explained that my hip impingement was causing my back pain, along with biomechanical factors such as my gait, posture (hunched), and lack of glute and hamstring development. He was very clear and personable despite being a renowned expert in hip surgery.
I had bilateral hip surgeries over the course of two years with an excellent result. My back pain went away, my posture is now better, and I have full range of motion and strength. I now spend a lot of time playing with my two young kids and about 10-15 hours per week dancing salsa and bachata, which involves a substantial amount of movement. I have no issues.
