As I was descending down into a natural cave located in a property lot that I was trying to sell, the wooden staircase crumbled. I fell from about a 4 meter height and landed on my right leg. The result was a femoral neck hip fracture, an ugly one. Thirty-nine hours later - after a two hour rescue operation, evaluation at two different medical centers in Dominican Republic, 4 ground ambulances and one air ambulance - I arrived at HSS. It was 3:00 AM on Monday morning. By 3:00 PM, I was in the operating room undergoing a right total hip replacement. The surgery went well and the hospital stay was truly an occasion to experience world-class medical attention and service. This is probably one of the best decisions I have made in my life. The next day after returning to Dominican Republic, I was back at work and playing golf with clients only 8 weeks after surgery!!! My deepest gratitude to the wonderful team at HSS, especially Laura Porcella (DR ambassador) and Lady Perez, both from the International Center, and Dr. William Ricci, chief of orthopedic trauma, and his team.
