I broke my rotator cuff a year ago. After several rounds of physical therapy, the recommendation was surgery so I contacted the HSS representative in Ecuador, Maricel Peré. She swiftly arranged an appointment with Dr. Dines. After meeting with the doctor, he confirmed surgery was necessary, and explained the whole process clearly to me and my family. Within 10 days, there was availability in the OR. I got to the hospital on Friday and everyone was extremely attentive as I was prepared for surgery. The surgery was one hour long, exactly as described by Dr Dines. The day after, I was back at the hotel with very little pain that was easily managed. The next week we had our final appointment, in which PT instructions were given and I came back home. Now I have to do about 12-16 weeks of PT.
I have no pain, I wear a sling to protect my arm, and I am slowly regaining strength. My quality of life has improved and I am very happy and grateful that I could go to HSS.
