Upon understanding that the cartilage in my knee had worn away in one area and was thinning throughout the other part, I began to search for a competent and compassionate surgeon to remedy this situation. I knew that I could remedy my pain and stress with various pain medications, however, I chose to correct my medical condition directly. It was inevitable that total knee replacement would be in my future, so why not just get it done now?
Following a discussion with several orthopedic surgeons, Dr. McLawhorn made a great impression on me. He expressed strong knowledge and experience regarding the specifics of the surgical procedure and also showed empathy and care regarding my personal feelings, questions, and concerns. These were very positive qualities that allowed me to make a clear decision.
I had my surgery on February 28, 2025, and following 11 weeks of healing, ongoing physical therapy, and post-surgical evaluations with Dr. McLawhorn, I have happily returned to work as a speech pathologist. Being guided on the "Continuous Motion Device" at home was also a large part of my rehabilitation. This gave me additional motivation to move my knee to it's highest degree from the onset of treatment.
My overall experience from the beginning has been very positive. The office staff is very helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable. Dr. McLawhorn's pre- and post-surgical care has been wonderful, and I am so happy to be walking with my new knee!
