I had capsular shift shoulder surgery 20 years ago and during the procedure, they had to remove all the cartilage in my shoulder. I am very active- golf, softball, swimming, skiing.... and over time, the bone on bone was causing me chronic pain and it became difficult to sleep. In my early 50s, i didn't want to contemplate shoulder replacement until it was the only option. After meeting with Dr. Halpren and doing a PRP and trying other preventative steps, I met with Dr. Altchek and scheduled the total replacement surgery. The procedure went well and after healing and PT, he gave me his blessing to play golf with my father and son in Scotland just 4 months post surgery. It was a great trip and my new shoulder neither helped or hurt my golf game. A year post surgery, I am now swimming, playing softball and enjoying being pain free. HSS is fantastic!
