I had been experiencing pain and limited range of motion in my hip for several years. The pain and limited range of motion worsened and was interfering with my ability to take part in the activities I enjoy, so I went to see Dr. McGrath at HSS Brooklyn. He told me that I had severe arthritis in my hip and gave me a cortisone injection which immediately relieved the pain. I called him again when the pain mitigating effect wore off, and he referred me to his colleague, Dr. Elizabeth Gausden to talk about the possibility of hip replacement. I met with Dr. Gausden and her PA, Hayden Newman, to discuss hip replacement surgery. Both were kind, compassionate, and factual about the procedure, the healing process, and the hoped-for results. Dr. Gausden and her team exuded confidence in their ability to get me back to the activities I love. I had an anterior approach, computer assist THA in late April 2022. Although I was supposed to go home the same day of surgery, I ended up staying in the hospital. Dr. Gausden visited me twice during my hospital stay, and Hayden followed up with me a few weeks later to ensure everything was going according to plan. My physical therapist at HSS Brooklyn Rehabilitation and Performance, Klaus Dobra, has been instrumental in ensuring my therapy compliments the surgical procedure to get me back to hiking, biking, gardening, golf, and whatever else I want to do! From my first encounter with Dr. McGrath through my follow-up with Dr. Gausden, I have felt that the priority is to help me get back into the active life I enjoy. And this weekend, 8 weeks after the procedure I was back at the driving range and walked over 15 miles. I couldn’t be happier with the outcome, and I recommend Dr. Gausden and her team to anyone considering hip replacement.
