My name is Logan and I am currently a Junior in high school. About two years ago I began on my track and field journey and tried pole vaulting for the first time. I was immediately hooked and knew that vaulting was something that I wanted to pursue. My dad was also a pole vaulter so I guess it is in my blood. I was doing well until spring of 2023. My back started to hurt and got progressively worse until there were times that I could barely walk. We went to see three different doctors around me and was told by all of them that there was nothing that I could do. I have a pars defect on both sides of my back. These doctors all told me that I would never be able to vault again and that I would have to deal with this for the rest of my life. Luckily, we got in to see Dr. Heyer, who is absolutely amazing. She didn't sugarcoat it and made it clear that I had to put in the work and follow her directions but that if I did I would eventually get back to normal. So, after an entire summer wearing a brace that made it so my abdomen couldn't really move and months of physical therapy, I am back to normal. Since returning, I have attended the Millrose Games, Indoor Nationals, NY States, Penn Relays and have qualified for NY State and Outdoor Nationals. I am beyond grateful for Dr. Heyer and the help that she gave me. There is no doubt that I wouldn't be where I am if it weren't for her. She is amazing.
