I was so excited to sign with the New York Red Bulls at the beginning of the 2018 season. Just a few games into the season as I was getting comfortable with the team, I injured my right knee. It was a non-contact play and I felt a pop in my knee and immediately knew it was serious. I was examined by Dr. Riley Williams and he confirmed that I tore my ACL and would need surgery.
I knew going into the surgery that it was going to be a difficult recovery. Dr. Williams and the rest of the team at Hospital for Special Surgery helped motivate me throughout my rehab. Just days after my surgery I started biking, and six weeks later it looked like I hadn’t even undergone surgery.
It was tough to watch my teammates practice every day as I was rehabbing. After seven months, I was cleared to play with no restrictions and was able to join my teammates on the field. Going through a grueling injury makes you realize how much you miss playing the game and the work that you put into it every day. I am thankful to Dr. Williams and the HSS team for helping me get back out on the field playing the sport that I love.
