I got hit by a car in 2012 while riding my bike and broke the top of my tibia off, I also tore my MCL and medial meniscus. I had one operation from another surgeon to do the repair and hardware installation, after months my MCL was still unstable. I went to see Dr. Ranawat, he scheduled me for a MCL replacement, arthroscopy to clear out my joint, did a distal femoral osteotomy with an iliac crest allograft - all of which was terrifying. He assured me of a great recovery and we went ahead with it. He came to check on me before and after, explained everything very clearly and I appreciate him not 'sugar coating' the situation. After that I had another operation to remove the hardware, since then with a lot of exercise and training, I'm racing my bike. He told me the best thing I could do for my leg was to ride and I haven't stopped. I now race with a women's team that I created called 'This Team Saves Lives'. For every top 10 placement we achieve, our title sponsor sends a year supply of food to child suffering from malnutrition. If it weren't for Dr. Ranawat's help, I wouldn't be able to help so many others and I can't express how lucky I feel every time I get back on my bike.
