On October 31, 2025 - Halloween - I had a left total hip replacement at HSS after living with pain for more than 2½ years. I kept delaying the surgery because I mistakenly believed recovery would take months and I’d never be the same. I was still working and had no plans to retire, so I suffered in silence. Eventually, the pain became unbearable, and I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Elizabeth Gausden at HSS. That decision turned out to be one of the smartest I’ve ever made.

I met Dr. Gausden and her team on October 7, and surgery was scheduled for the 31st. She explained everything - the procedure, recovery, and rehab - in detail. The surgery went smoothly with no complications. I walked out of the hospital later that afternoon feeling surprisingly good.

Here’s the best part: within two weeks, I was driving and back to work full-time (with a lighter schedule). I carried a cane for security, but rarely needed it. Physical therapy was effective, and I stayed disciplined with my exercises. At my four-week follow-up, Dr. Gausden was thrilled with my progress. When I asked about riding my motorcycle again, she gave me the green light. Three days later, I took a 100-mile ride - pain-free and full of joy. I was back!

This incredible outcome was thanks to the skill, professionalism, and compassion of Dr. Gausden, her staff, and everyone I encountered at HSS. I’m forever grateful.
