I destroyed my left knee playing schoolyard basketball when I was in my early 20s. I had knee reconstruction done at the time. A year later I had a slip and fall on the same knee and tore the patellar tendon, which led to more surgery. Thirty years later, I had another slip and fall and tore the meniscus. Besides very limited knee function from these injuries, I was told I would become arthritic as I aged.
Sure enough, within the last ten years it became more painful to do any daily functions that required my legs including getting a restful sleep. I was bone-on-bone.
I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis. It got so bad my knee locked, which meant that scar tissue had built up to the point where I could not extend my knee straight. I was hobbling around and because of that my hip started to become painful as well. Two years of intense pain and I finally decided to do something about it.
I had heard over the years that HSS was the place to go for such procedures. So I did an exhaustive search of all the knee doctors at HSS and decided that Dr. Debbi would be the best fit to help me. After consulting with him, I felt that he was in fact the guy.
His administrative staff was great, the hospital facilities, surgical team, and nurses were great. Both the pre-op and post-op experiences were great and I used their app to communicate with Dr. Debbi’s team whenever I had a question or to reference information. It was easy to navigate.
My surgery for total knee replacement went great. Dr. Debbi did his best to clean out old scar tissue and help me get my flexibility back. I’m one year post-op as I write this and I feel like Dr. Debbi has given me my life back as mobility is everything to me. I can’t thank Dr. Debbi and the team at HSS enough and have already referred a friend who is scheduled for surgery. That is the ultimate thank you.
