Spinal stenosis pain resulted in an inability to walk 60 ft. An orthopedist refused surgery because of my history of pulmonary embolisms (2006 & again in 2007) and an IVC filter in 2007. I was referred to a pain management specialist, but was refused pain management because I was on blood thinners. I had my knees replaced in 1994 by Dr. Sculco, when I was living and working in NJ hospitals in Utilization Management. I moved to Florida in 2002 as a case manager for insurance company and started having severe pain when walking in 2008. After therapy and exercise failed, I called. HSS and made my appointment with Dr Hughes. I couldn’t believe it when he said he could help me. I had to travel alone to NY & met my brother before my surgery so testing could be done. 24 hrs after my surgery, I was out of bed (OOB) and walking in the hall feeling terrific. I had rehab next door and 9 days later I flew home to Florida, where I continued my therapy. And I still live in my home, do all shopping, cooking & cleaning. I also drive to pool 3x week for water aerobics. Thanks to Dr Hughes I have a wonderfully full life & enjoy time with my great-grandsons.
