I fell and broke my wrist playing tennis. My distal radius was shattered and my ulna broken as well. I initially went to a local practice, which is well renowned in the area. I met with a surgeon for 10 minutes, who was dismissive and said my case was "run of the mill". Both my husband and I felt uncomfortable with his attitude and lack of openness to questions.
I'd been to HSS for some bone spurs in my shoulder a few years ago and decided to see if I might be able to be seen by someone there. I called the office of Dr. Daniel Osei and spoke with his office manager, Paola. Paola was amazing. She listened to my story and managed to squeeze in an appointment with Dr. Osei the following day. Dr. Osei spent a lot of time with me reviewing my situation, outlining the surgery, going through any potential risks and complications. He is soft spoken, approachable, personable and clearly very knowledgeable. He was so patient answering any and all questions I had. I immediately felt comfortable with him and confident in his abilities. I learned that my "run of the mill" injury was, in fact, not run of the mill. My distal radius was shattered in 7 identifiable pieces. I was scheduled for surgery the following week.
My experience at the hospital was flawless. Everyone I came into contact with was so positive and friendly, from the security guards to the scheduling staff to the nurses. My surgery took longer than expected because it was quite complex. However, when Dr. Osei told me "I feel good about it", I knew that he had done a stupendous job.
Fast forward 6 months and my wrist feels nearly normal. I am ever so grateful to Dr. Osei and his team for his work on my wrist. I cannot imagine trusting my wrist to anyone else, and I do not believe I would have gotten as positive a result as I have with anyone else.
