I tore my ACL skiing in February 2021. I consulted a few orthopedists and knew it would require surgery. I was told my only option was a traditional reconstruction and a graft would need to be taken from another ligament to “recreate” another ACL in replacement of my injured one. After thorough research, I came across Dr. DiFelice and was open to his concept of ACL repairs. He explained the recovery is typically easier, as I would not have to also heal from a graft - he would be using my native ACL and reconnect it.
The most challenging part was making a decision on the surgery. I independently reached out to MANY of Dr. DiFelice's past patients, and they all vouched for his technique and their success post-op. I knew I was in very good hands. I am so happy I made the decision to have my surgery with Dr. DiFelice he is truly a pioneer in this field. I had full extension of my leg at 1 week post-op, I was walking without crutches (except outside in busy NYC) at 3 weeks post-op, & also weight training in PT at about 3 weeks. At less then 2 months post-op I was hiking Yellowstone, 6 months I was paddleboarding, 7 months rock climbing, and 8 months playing tennis. I am a nurse and have long shifts (12+ hours) and forget I even had the surgery while on my feet all day. I can't thank Dr DiFelice and his amazing team enough! Thank you thank you thank you!
Also HUGE thank you to my physical therapist, Amit Gohil (also at HSS). I was his first ACL repair, and I am SO happy he took me on. He is beyond patient, kind, and is so thorough & diligent at his therapy. I will never forget either of these gems, and the huge impact they have had on my life.
