After losing 100 pounds, I wanted to enjoy my new found health by running a marathon. Constant pain and discomfort forced me to halt all activities and seek treatment. I was diagnosed with femoroacetabular impingement in each hip in 2011. Dr. Kelly and his staff provided me with the appropriate information as to me next steps. While I could have waited a few years to proceed with surgery, I wanted to finish what I started. I wanted to run in a marathon. I elected for the first of two surgeries in December, 2011. After recovering from my first surgery, I noticed improvements almost immediately. I partially resumed my training in the spring of 2012 with a scheduled procedure for the opposite hip in December of 2012. After my second hip surgery, the recovery was simpler and quicker than the prior year. I began to increase my workouts. I started to run faster and longer. I did it all pain free. After training one full year, I ran the NYC Marathon in 2014. It was the greatest experience. That experience would not have been possible had it not been for the support of Dr. Kelly and his staff at HSS. Since my second and final hip surgery I ran in 3-5K's, 3-10K's and 1 Marathon. In 2015, I plan on running 2-Half Marathon's, 1-10K, 3-5K's and 1-10 Mile race.
