My hip pain started back when I was a sophomore in high school. I was playing soccer in the fall and running track and field in the winter and spring. I wasn’t sure what the pain was at first and once it didn’t go away my parents got me into physical therapy and next into HSS to see Dr. Bryan Kelly.
Dr. Kelly suggested we try a cortisone shot and rehab at first and that brought temporary relief, but did not eliminate the pain. I was devastated. Running was a part of me. Dr. Kelly assured me that he would fix my hip pain and performed labral refixation surgery my junior year of high school. The team at HSS helped me rehab until I was able to run and eventually compete again. Although, it took a bit of time to get back to where I was before, I wasn’t close to being done.
Fast forward from my rehab to my collegiate career at Johns Hopkins University. I was a member of both the cross country and track and field teams for all 4 years. I put in over 30 hours of practices and competitions weekly. I continued to do my exercises that I learned at HSS and grew stronger and faster than ever before. My senior year I had my best year yet. I was a 3-season captain, was named National Athlete of the Week in January, earned All-Region, All-Conference, All-District, All-Academic honors, and ran personal records in all of my events. Without Dr. Kelly and the rest of the HSS staff, none of this would’ve been possible. Thank you HSS!
