I've been a competitive cyclist, runner and triathlete for decades, and I make my living coaching triathletes. I had been in (gradually worsening) pain for 20-25 years, but my "light bulb" moment came when I was struggling to carry my 3-year old son due to the pain. That's when I knew it was time to do something.
Dr. Kelly and his staff were tremendous from day one. The exam was thorough and professional, and then the discussion of my options with PA Jeremy Rinzler left me feeling as though I fully understood what my possible courses of action were. I opted for surgery - debridement and repair of the labrum - on both hips. The first surgery was 12/15/14, after which I began aggressive physical therapy to get me ready for the second surgery, which was 3/16/15.
Fast forward to June, and I've been cleared to begin exercising again without contraindications. I'm back in the pool, running, and riding. I can carry my son without grimacing, I can walk stairs without leaning on a banister, and I can put on my shoes without pain, all of which others may take for granted, but I haven't done in years.
Though the surgery and rehab were not easy, I can already see that it was well worth it, and I'm grateful to everyone at HSS for their professionalism, expertise and compassion.
