I tore my ACL in 2017 and opted to have surgery in Kenya where we were living. What I did not know was that the hospital where I had my surgery had infected me with mycobacterium abscessus. For almost six my knee never healed and I exhibited symptoms of infection (weight loss, night sweats, and headaches). In 2018, my daughter was having surgery to correct her back as she had scoliosis and in the process I met with Dr. Marx initially before consulting with Dr. Gonzalez Della Valle. The both agreed that they needed to remove the hardware in my knee and then see Dr. Michael Henry, an infectious disease doctor.

I had my surgery on March 14, 2018 with Dr. Della Valle and thereafter I was under the care of Dr. Henry for five months. My biggest fear was that I would never play sports again, but the expertise of Dr. Della Valle and Dr. Henry gave me hope and today I can participate in most sports that I thought I would never play.
