In Feb. 2016 at the age of 50 I had a total left hip replacement. I suffered an injury in 2004 and was told I needed a hip replacement, but I would not be able to be active, so I suffered for 12 years until I could no longer take the hip, groin and low back pain any longer. Dr Alejandro Gonzalez Della Valle was recommended by several friends that had been treated by him. After making the trek to Manhattan for consultation, he recommended a total hip replacement. On Feb. 17, 2016, I was operated on at HSS in Manhattan. The first day after was pretty painful but the nurses were very attentive and gave plenty of pain medication and the PT dept. came in several times a day to get you back on your feet and to learn to walk again. I was able to go home 2 days later, nurses and PT came to my house for the next 2 weeks. Recovery came fast, and I was able to sleep in a recliner for 3 hours at a time and I felt walking with crutches instead of a cane allowed my recovery to really speed up. I was able to return to work on Monday Feb. 21, just 4 days after surgery, to perform most of my requirements as a Chiropractor after 2 weeks. I returned to HSS for my 6 week checkup and was told I no longer had any restrictions. So that day I went to the ice rink to relearn how to ice skate again. A few weeks later I was back playing hockey again. A year and a half later, I play 4-6 games a week (as if I never even had surgery) and am the leading scorer again on several of the teams. Dr. Della Valle is a miracle worker. He has allowed me to continue to play the game I love. He is not only a great surgeon but he is one of the kindest, gentle and caring people I have ever met. I am grateful for everything he has done for me.
