I want to highly recommend HSS for any orthopedic surgery you are considering. I originally had a double knee replacement nearly 9 years ago at another facility. At that time the surgeon used a knee that was not standard and therefore had to be replaced. After I fell 4 years ago, it was so painful since the bones (tibia and femur) did not line up properly. The revision surgery on my right knee was a rather complex procedure which only a knee surgeon specialist, like Dr. Alberto Carli at HSS, could correct.
My surgeon, Dr. Alberto Carli, did an amazing job fixing my knee/leg. Surgery was on August 16th and I was able to be discharged on August 23rd to my home with my partner, Anne Marie Ayala, a retired nurse. The entire staff at HSS was excellent, including Ryan, assistant to Dr. Carli in NYC, who was always there via phone call before my surgery to arrange all necessary pre-op appointments, answer questions that I had, and more. Pain management was personalized to my satisfaction, the physical therapists were getting me up the first day after surgery and were very careful and thorough during my post-operative stay at HSS.
All the doctors on Dr Carli’s team were excellent as were all the nursing staff at HSS. They arranged for an HSS PT to come to my home 2 days per week for 4 weeks plus a home care nurse, Nancy, who came a few times to check on incision and drain and remove stitches. In addition, I also found it very convenient that HSS has a satellite outpatient for pre- and post-op patients (x-rays, follow-up care, etc.) in Paramus, NJ, which is only 20 minutes from my apartment in Suffern, NY.
