My first surgery for a torn meniscus was in college 50 years ago. I had subsequent surgeries in the mid-80s and mid-90s, resulting in total removal of the meniscus and a bone-on-bone condition. After tolerating the occasional pain and discomfort for the past 25+ years, my condition worsened and I decided it was time to consider total knee replacement. After considering another doctor and hospital, I selected HSS and Dr. Elizabeth Gausden to perform the TKR. HSS is world-renowned for their expertise in this area, so it was an easy decision. I met with Dr. Gausden and members of her staff, Hayden Newman and Samantha Taylor. I was so very impressed with their professionalism, knowledge and compassion. They put my mind at ease and gave me the confidence to proceed with the TKR. It has been just over 6 weeks since the TKR and I am progressing nicely through physical therapy. My goal is to be able to take some long walks with my wife, get back on my bicycle and hopefully, ski in Colorado again next year.
Dr. Gausden and her staff have been wonderful throughout the pre-surgery, surgery and post-surgery process. I could not recommend them and HSS more highly.
