I am convinced this will be a year of reflection for our family. As we’ve witnessed so many transitions in the past year I find myself deep in thought. As I reflect, I’m full of appreciation for the journey we’re on. I’m full of gratitude for so many of the people who have helped us along the way — especially the amazing doctors who have become like family. This past year I’ve found myself thinking more about one of the most influential doctors in our family’s life. It’s time to pause to thank our favorite orthopedic surgeon who specializes in orthopedic oncology and metabolic bone disease, Dr. Derek Hansen.
I've known him for nearly over a year, and I thank him for my son’s life. We feeling incredibly blessed that we’d be surrounded by so many doctors who would be there every time to help. I don’t know how clearly I’ve conveyed to you or the rest of the world — but it is because of so many amazing doctors like Dr. Hansen that my son is alive today. Thank you for all the care that you have given my son James over the past year. You have made sure that my son had always given the best care available. Your compassionate attention and professional care saved his life.
I credited you to helping us and be there for James whenever he needed you. The very first day we met you we knew you were the one. Since day one you told James, “Are you ready to fight? I want you to be strong. This is going to be a tough rollercoaster. You fight and I fight with you. LET'S DO THIS TOGETHER!”
A simple thank you doesn't seem to be enough for your extraordinary act saved and changed his life. I understand that you may not wish to be in the limelight, so I also thank your entire medical team for everything they do to support you. There are not enough words for me to express my appreciation for the special, excellent care you have provided and for the unique gift you are to your patients.
James is blessed that you are his doc! I have great confidence in you and your abilities. Also, you taught me how to deal with his wound, and I am happy that James is able to get back on his feet. Since last week, he has been doing a lot better. I thank you for your excellent work, and I would like to let you know that it was greatly appreciated not only by me but by everyone who stood by me. You made it your priority to update him. You found ways for James to stay positive, happy, and satisfied. You always brought him strength and encouragement to continually to stay strong and never give up.
Thank you so much Dr. Hansen for the great care and surgery you performed on him on 12/30/2020 (osteosarcoma right distal femur). Thirteen and a half hours were the longest hours ever and my son's life was in your hand. I am so grateful for your constant support and the tender care that you showed him as he was healing from his leg surgery. Thank you for always being compassionate and understanding with him. I can say that you are his rock in everything. I attribute his healing to you, and will forever be grateful for your undying love and support. Once again, I want to thank you. God bless you always Dr. Hansen.
