I grew up in the 70's playing basketball on outdoor courts that were blacktop or cement. Jumping and landing on those were no good for my body and my knees took the brunt of the abuse. I had my first knee surgery in 1977 tearing the patella tendon in my left knee. Five years later I tore the patella tendon in my right knee. I have three more surgeries between the two knees after that for various issues. The arthritis in both and the bone on bone from my knee caps not tracking properly finally were too much.
On October 29, 2015 Dr. David J. Mayman performed bi-lateral knee replacement on me. On May 1, 2016 I rode the full forty miles in the 5 Boro Bike Tour in New York City, just six months later.
Dr. Mayman, his staff and the staff at HSS were friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, pleasant and respectful of me and my needs the entire process. From my first visit to his office through the three days I was in the hospital and all during my recovery they have been helpful. They got me through the down periods when I asked myself why and kept me focus on getting to my goal to ride that tour.
Next goal to play a round of golf!!!
