As a 14-year-old freshman at Albertus Magnus High School in Rockland County, NY, starting on the Varsity soccer team meant everything to me. So, I was devastated when I injured my knee. My parents took me to Hospital for Special Surgery for evaluation because of the great reviews they had received. We met with Dr. Peter Fabricant who took the time to explain that my repeating patella dislocations were due to a torn medial patella femoral ligament. Dr. Fabricant performed medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction surgery in October 2016.
The next few months weren’t a lot of fun. I was in a brace and on crutches for most of that time and had to miss my basketball season. But, those months also went by quickly. By March, just 5 months later, I was cleared to resume activities. At first, I just rejoined my track team, but another month later I rejoined my club soccer team.
It’s now a full year after my surgery and my knee feels great. In the 7 months since returning to action I’ve achieved a lot. I set personal records in the high jump and triple jump. I also joined my club soccer team on a trip to Indiana where we were semi-finalists in the US Club Soccer National Cup Finals.
Thank you, Dr. Fabricant, and all the talented and kind professionals at HSS. Thanks to you, my knee is now better than new.
