Two years ago today, April 27, 2021, I had my hip replaced at HSS. Dr. Seth Jerabek performed my surgery - he and his team are outstanding. He did not get me Back in the Game; he got me into a game I never knew I could play.
I was born with a dislocated hip that was a late diagnosis. My hip joint never really developed. Surgeons performed an open reduction when I was five years old, allowing the ball of my femur to fit into a socket they created during the surgery. It was inevitable that I would develop osteoarthritis later in my life.
I first visited HSS in 1991. The doctors advised against surgery because of my young age and the structure of my hip. They recommended a regimen of NSAIDS, weight management and walking with a crutch. Thirty years later I returned to HSS and met Dr. Jerabek. My wife and I immediately knew Dr. Jerabek was the one. He was kind, took time to listen, and was confident he could repair my hip, giving me a much better quality of life. I can say that two years post-op I walk 3+ miles a day, I can tie my shoes without help, I sleep through the night, and never have any pain in my hip.
If you are thinking about a complex hip replacement, you need to visit HSS. From pre-op to post-op to follow-up care, nothing beats HSS and its great doctors, like Dr. Jerabek.
I've also included a short video documentary that follows my journey in recovery. Video credits to my son Patrick Quigley.
