Prior to visiting Dr. Thomas Sculco, I was in severe pain from my right hip, disabling me from walking or enjoying any sport exercises. My appointment with Dr. Sculco revealed that I needed a total hip replacement, and I asked Dr. Sculco if I was a candidate for minimally invasive surgery. I was delighted that the answer was yes, and felt confident that Dr. Sculco was the best surgeon for me; his compassion and consideration for my welfare made me feel confident and less frightened of undergoing the surgical procedure. What I discovered at Hospital for Special Surgery was a global sense of consideration of my needs from all the staff members who work at HSS and a genuine sense of compassion and caring. Yes, the surgery was successful, and I walked on that new hip the same day; within a month I was back in the game, walking without pain. Moreover it has been 14 years since that surgery, and the right hip is still functioning and I am free of pain. I am indeed grateful to Dr. Sculco for his patience and caring, grateful to all the nurses who made my short stay comfortable, and to the rehabilitation staff who guided me on proper exercises after surgery. It is simply one Hospital where Doctors truly listen to their patients concerns!
