I have been playing soccer since the age of 4. As I got older I started playing more competitively and was on an Academy travel soccer team as well as on the high school Varsity Soccer team since the 9th grade. During my senior year I was recruited by the University at Albany to play as Goalkeeper on their Division 1 Soccer team for Fall, 2013. In November, 2012 during soccer practice, I sustained a left shoulder labrum tear. I was nervous that my injury would be the end of my dreams of playing Division 1 Soccer. I was initially told that my specific injury was rare in terms of where and how I sustained the tear. My parents were insistent on finding a surgeon affiliated with HSS. I'm so very thankful that we found Dr. Frank Cordasco. From the moment I met him I knew he was the right Doctor for me. He was serious, but most importantly he explained everything in a language I could understand. I felt I was in good hands and he gave me hope that my soccer career was not over. My surgery went well and the physical therapy that followed also went well. Seven months later, in June, 2013 I was playing for the National Academy Playoffs and in August, 2013 I started the Albany pre-season with the confidence that I was healed and ready to play. Today, I'm a Junior at the University at Albany and the starting Goalkeeper. I am happy to submit my story as a way of thanking Dr. Cordasco for his special skills and giving me a second chance to play the sport I love.
