I don’t think I’ve ever encountered a surgeon or a doctor so passionately engaged with his or her or their chosen field. His passion encompasses not only a mastery of the field, but a desire to be part of — or continue to be part of — innovations that will continue to surpass current state of the art practices. His knowledge, his wisdom, his experience and his great skills — the PhD as well as the MD — and, above all, his delight in practicing his chosen profession is remarkable. He has the kind of enthusiasm that lights up and lifts up the people around him and somehow he carries this all with ease. It feels as if working with patients is part of what delights him, part of what fuels him and is of genuine interest to him. I appreciate his answering all my questions, and I appreciate his sense of humor, his devotion to his patients, and his inclusion of medical acupuncture in his practice. The plant-based diet, along with the inclusion of medical acupuncture, are proof that Dr. Debbi’s practice is at the front edge, the forward facing practice of medecine and surgery — one that welcomes innovation and wants what is best for the patient. For years I have been increasingly not able to do the things I love: take long walks, do yoga, do Pilates, take various theater workshops; in fact, for the last five years, hip pain and referred pain was interfering with sleep and with pretty much all daily activities of living. I am in the middle of recovery now, but I already feel as if I have a new leg to stand on, and I am especially grateful as a writer. Those long walks are how I best write or revise or renew. I am looking forward to walking outside. It really is a second chance at life.
