I work as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Education at West Point. Teaching in the department, we are tasked with instilling the warrior ethos in our students so that they may go on and lead enlisted soldiers. While the job is extremely fun, the most rewarding part is the mentoring, teaching, and working with the future officers that will help defend our nations freedoms.
Over the course of my time at West Point, my hips had steadily declined due to activity at work as well as being an extremely active person. Participating in team sports, individual sports, coaching and mentoring youth sports, my mobility began to decrease to the point that pain and instability followed. My research led me to HSS and Dr. Danyal Nawabi.
Dr. Nawabi and the entire medical team helped me come to the conclusion that hip resurfacing was the best option. While my story is not yet complete, I know that my surgical care, which includes the amazing nurses that were integral to this process, was fantastic and my post-operative treatment with the physical therapy team will be just as great. I know that I will return to full activity in due time because of the wonderful care I received at HSS.
Very respectfully,
Drew Van Dam
