My story starts in Yangon, Myanmar where I was working as the librarian of an International School. After months of suffering with undiagnosed pain I went to the great Bumrungrad Hospital in Bangkok. The x-ray taken there showed osteoarthritis in both hips, after two years they are both replaced. I came home, the greatest city in the world, for surgery. My surgeon was at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City.
Hip replacement therapy is highly effective. It has been six months since my last surgery and I have more energy and mobility to exercise and get around the City – standing, walking, taking stairs and lifting weights at the gym.
I was delighted to finish a 5 mile hike on rocky trails in the desert of Arizona not so long ago.
I am so grateful to my surgeon for his skill, expertise and generosity in accepting me as a patient without hesitation, in an emergency, and coming from abroad. his beautiful office assistants are Serena and Lauren. They make everything work from scheduling to working with difficult insurance issues. While in the hospital I had a gorgeous view of the East River and first class treatment through Austin Cavelli, physician assistant.
My rehabilitation was at Village Care where outstanding physical therapy is available. After one week I went home, continuing physical therapy with Jimmy Olayos at Spear Physical Therapy. I’d highly recommend this path to recovery.
