In early 2019, I sought out Dr. Girardi after being told for several years that my surgeon here in Albany would not operate as I would break his OR table, die on the table or lose my kidney and liver functions. This all due to being hit by a motor vehicle while directing traffic at an accident I was employed as a police officer. After meeting with Dr. Girardi and reviewing my medical records, my wife and I decided for me to move forward with corrective spinal fusion surgery to remove broken rods and screws from a prior surgery here in Albany NY.
This was the best decision I have made since the accident, which forced me to retire early and lose my career. Dr. Girardi repaired the damage and corrected new damage that was done. I walked for the first time pain-free in seven years. It was a extremely emotional day, especially as I went into the OR on my birthday. The staff at HSS - doctors, nurses, patient aides, and radiologists - are by far the best in this country.
Fast forward to 2024, I developed severe imbalance and was unable to pick my feet up off the floor while standing. Once again, Dr. Girardi and his staff reviewed and evaluated my records and once again I spent a weekend with the staff at HSS. And again they were exceptional. It was determined that I needed a multilevel cervical fusion stemming from the initial motor vehicle strike. I went in on a Thursday morning and was home in Albany by Saturday to watch college ball. Dr Girardi is the most sincere, compassionate, and talented doctor/surgeon I have ever met.
I had reservations about traveling to the city, but this has been a very pleasurable experience. There are no words to express my thanks to Dr. Girardi, his staff in the office and the entire staff at the hospital for providing the absolute best care I have had since 2005 when this all started. I have and will always got to HSS for any orthopedic care that I need in the future. Thank you to a hospital that truly cares about its patients and their families. May God bless you all.
