I was in the military for 18 years, most of it carrying very heavy equipment for long periods of time. So, not surprisingly with the desire to keep very fit, my knees developed severe osteoarthritis.

I went through a period of having regular cortisone injections, but this only provided short term easing and simply seemed to accelerate the issue.

When I sought advice from friends and family, I was urged to avoid surgery until the last possible moment. However, a good friend of mine told me that he had just had full bilateral knee replacement surgery under the supervision of Dr. Stephen Fealy, who specialized in sports injuries.

To cut a long story short, I saw Dr. Stephen, who immediately put me and my wife at ease and recommended full bilateral knee replacement surgery. I underwent surgery on 20 Apr. 18. The operation went well and the subsequent support was world-class. The key though was to move quickly into the physio treatment accepting that there really is a 'no pain no gain' aspect to it all.

The result was that only three months later I was back climbing cliffs and completed the 100 mile London cycle race, after training in the French Alps! Today I am back to full fitness with zero pain in my knees!

Many thanks to all involved.
