I came to know Dr. James Farmer and Dr. Christopher Lutz some five or six years ago when another staff member in my office had complicated spinal surgery with Dr. Farmer and recommended him highly. Our initial contact with HSS was related to a failed spinal surgery that my daughter had in our local hospital. Little did I know that our focus would turn to me in these past two years. I developed significant pain in my right leg and my first stop was Dr. Lutz as we exhausted any and all non-invasive procedures. We reached a point where the only option was surgery and I met again with Dr. Farmer. There is no question that his approach to patient care made me at ease immediately and I truly felt like I was very much a "partner" in my care. He took the time to answer my many questions, continuing to assure me that everything would be fine and he was absolutely correct. My fusion at L5/S1 and L4/L5 was successful and the leg pain is gone. I am back to walking nearly two miles in distance when I could not walk from the car to the front door. Mall shopping is back on my agenda! My experience at HSS was extraordinary, from the staff who welcomed me to the hospital to the nursing staff and other professionals. I have recommended Dr. Lutz and Dr. Farmer to several of my peers who suffer with back pain and I know that I will always look at this experience as one of my better life decisions.
