I began having left hip pain in 2009 that gradually progressed to where I could no longer run or engage in any significant lower body physical activity. Friends and co-workers noticed that my limp was becoming more pronounced. The pain impacted my ability to fully function as a volunteer firefighter. I finally said enough is enough and met with Dr. Padgett, who was a gentleman and true professional. He looked at the x-rays, told me I needed a new hip, and I scheduled the surgery that took place on September 17, 2014.
The surgery took place on Wednesday and I was home on Friday. The initial pain was very manageable and I began walking every day. I walked four miles with my six year old daughter ten days after the surgery - something I could never imagine doing before the surgery. I was fully released about seven weeks later and returned to firefighting pain free and with a great deal of new found mobility. The pain I had experienced every day before the surgery is now gone completely. I am physically active, once again sleep through the night, and fully enjoy my two young children pain free. I should have gotten the surgery years earlier.
