I'm a dancer, not professional, but have studied and continue to take class now at the age of 72. For as long as I can remember, I had what I thought was a pull in my left groin. It was uncomfortable for many years, but didn't prevent me from doing physical activities. However, the pain turned out to be my left hip and when the hip started to deteriorate over the few years I realized I had to check it out. I did and I needed a hip replacement. Dr. Elizabeth Gausden was recommended to me by one of HSS' terrific physical therapists who is best buds with a friend of mine, also a terrific and very accomplished PT.
Dr. Gausden is an excellent surgeon. She and her staff are efficient, thorough, compassionate and friendly. They all are amazing. On February 8, 2023, Dr. Gausden did a total replacement of my left hip. I did physical therapy prehab, upping my workout routine and including vigorous spin classes, for a few months before the surgery. Of course, I resumed post operative physical therapy within about a week after the surgery. I followed all of HSS' post-op recommendations, doing exercises at home and walking every day. As a result, my post-op recovery was very swift and after seeing Dr. Gausden in mid-March of 2023, about 6 weeks after surgery, I resumed ballet class. Right now, I am dancing at a level way above what a 72 year old non-professional dancer should be dancing at.
But it's not only the dance. I hadn't realized how much the hip pain was affecting and weakening the rest of my body. Now, after the surgery, I am able to spin, do TRX, yoga, Pilates and other activities at a very high level, strengthening my whole body.
I cannot recommend and praise enough, HSS, Dr. Gausden and having this surgery. In fact, two of my friends are now patients of Dr. Gausden. Dr. Elizabeth Gausden is magic!
