On May 19, 2016, I tore my ACL playing in a NYC basketball league. Our team was playing small, and being the ‘tall’ guy at 5'11", I had to play center. Midway through the second half, I went to box out a 6'5" ripped guy, leaped for the rebound, and suddenly felt a blow to my left knee. Pop! I rolled around the floor in excruciating pain. The gym was dead silent. I knew right away that my knee was shredded. In shock, I thought my basketball “career” would be over.

I was recommended to HSS and in particular to Dr. Sam Taylor. As soon as I met Dr. Taylor, I sensed confidence and optimism. This was my first major surgery and Dr. Taylor was able to calm my nerves (slightly)! His knowledge of ACL injuries was extensive and it didn’t hurt that he worked for my favorite NFL team, the New York Football Giants. I knew I was in good hands!

Although, my initial recovery wasn’t as smooth as I hoped, I was assured by Dr. Taylor that the brutal bruising of my leg was normal and with time the pain would pass. Even when on vacation with his family, Dr. Taylor responded to my nervous questions and provided me with peace of mind.

I also wouldn’t have been able to recover without the help from my mom. Her love and care was unmatched and I can’t thank her enough. I would also like to thank SPEAR Physical Therapy and Armonk Physical Therapy and Sports Training for guiding me through the recovery process. Their leadership and attention to detail were remarkable.

After a year and a few months, I am back on the basketball court and cleared for all sport activity. Now I never really had a “career” in basketball, but I am so happy to be back enjoying the game that keeps me sane!

I recommend Dr. Taylor to all potential patients. He’s an amazing surgeon and a true gentleman!
