Dr. McLawhorn was the third doctor I visited to get a clear picture of what I was experiencing with my hip and what to do about it. He reviewed the x-ray I had acquired and gave me his assessment in terms I could easily understand and in a tone and manner that was unlike the histrionics I experienced with other opinions. After the assessment, Dr. McLawhorn asked me to walk normally about five feet and turn around and walk back to him. He told me that, owing to the deterioration of my right hip joint, my right leg was shorter than my left leg and he would take care of that too. That was the clincher.
The pre- and post-op folks at HSS in Stamford were terrific. I was discharged the next day and recovery was a breeze compared to the pain and/or discomfort I was being so stubborn about due to poor counsel or consideration from previous consults. Seven years later the only issue I have is a lack of full range of motion when I put on my right sock. That could also stem from the fact that I am 73 now, and who doesn't have something like that at this age?
