I was 13 years old when we discovered that I had scoliosis. I never really had any back pain but all of a sudden we started noticing a curve in my spine. When we visited Dr. Widmann, my x-ray showed that my curve was over 60 degrees. Surgery was my only option. Dr. Widmann suggested to get a another opinion which we did, but in the end we decided to have Dr. Widmann perform the spinal fusion.

I had my spine fused from L3 to T3. At that time I was very nervous because I play soccer and I was scared that this would stop me or holding me back from playing again. But I totally trusted Dr. Widmann and him and everyone made me feel safe and comfortable.

I wouldn’t say that the recovery was easy but I got through it without any complications. I got back on the soccer field but it took me a little bit to get used to my new body. I had to work hard to gain back my speed and especially my confidence but with hard work and determination I got there and I’m better than I was before.

It was just about a year after my surgery when me and my family entered the rugged maniac race and I ended up coming in first place in my heat. Now at 15 years old I am a starter on my varsity soccer team and I’m doing everything and more than what I was doing before my surgery. Goes to show that my surgery made me stronger and as bad as it seems in the moment if you work hard and don’t give up you can come back stronger then before. I am so thankful for Dr. Widmann and his team and I wouldn’t be where I am today without him. Choosing him was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
