I am a 49 year old female with a history of congenital hip dysplasia. I was diagnosed at 9 years old and had several surgeries on both hips as a child. I knew I would eventually need bilateral hip replacements.
In 2012 my hips were becoming more and more stiff. I was experiencing pain throughout the day and even during the night. It was becoming difficult to work and take care of my 3 children. Some days walking from the house to the car was a chore. As soon as I met Dr. Amar Ranawat and his PA Julie, I felt very comfortable with the information they provided to me. Dr. Ranawat was very honest about possible outcomes and made me feel very comfortable. Julie was always just an e-mail away to answer questions.
I had my first hip replacement in July 2012 and the second in October 2012. Due to my congenital hip dysplasia and abnormal gait for so many years my prosthesis on the right side became loose and I required a second hip replacement Sept. 2013.
The entire staff at HSS from doorman to doctors, PAs, Nurses, Nurses Aids, Physical therapists, Nutritionists and Janitors were just amazing. From previous experiences as a child I was very nervous and apprehensive to have any surgery on my hips. The staff at HSS took great care of me and my recovery was amazing. Now 4 years later I smile as I walk across the parking lot to my car, and wake up pain free. I have gone on several vacations and walked for hours without pain. I did the Best Buddies Walk with my daughter this spring (2016). I can tie my own shoes, I go to the gym 2-3 days a week and I work full time.
