I went to see Dr. MacGillivray because my knee had been locking for about a year and getting worse. From the moment I made an appointment, his entire team could not have been more exceptional. I assumed I needed a replacement, but he was confident it was a meniscus tear. An MRI proved he was indeed correct. Pam assured me it is an easy surgery and clearly explained exactly what each next step was. She spent whatever time I needed answering all my questions and I never felt rushed. Understandably I was nervous but between Dr. MacGillivray, Pam and Veronica guiding me, I knew I was in good hands.
The entire process of getting admitted at HSS to being prepped for surgery was seamless. Every staff member was incredibly compassionate, and they made me feel as if I was the only one having surgery that day! Dr. MacGillivray came in to see me just before I was to be wheeled into the OR. His professionalism and bedside manners were very comforting. Before I knew it, I was in recovery. I woke up with a little pain, took some meds but once I got home, I did not need any pain meds again. I literally walked into my apartment building with just a cane only hours after surgery.
The very next morning Veronica called with explicit instructions. She also gave me peace of mind with regards to any symptoms I might be having. I had bought the cold therapy machine, which turned out to be an excellent investment. I iced multiple times a day and walked around the apartment. I could not believe how quickly I kept improving. I started physical therapy and am basically back to normal after 3 weeks. I was told I’d have 3 small scars, but already they are hardly even visible at all. I cannot express how extraordinary HSS is and how fortunate I am to have found Dr. MacGillivray!
