I had a great deal of pain in my ankle and foot. I was diagnosed with avascular necrosis. I had been seen by orthopedic surgeons from elsewhere, who told me that the best treatment would be to fuse my ankle, which would lock it in place. I did not want to walk with a limp for the rest of my life if it could be avoided. I was also told that this unnatural walk would affect other parts of my body later in life. I made an appointment with Dr. Demetracopoulos for a second opinion. He was against fusing my ankle and suggested replacement instead. I had the surgery at HSS and it went well. He is an excellent doctor. Also, I can't say enough about how wonderful my hospital stay was. It was very clean, and the staff was very attentive. My recovery went well as have my follow up visits. Dr. Demetracopoulos is the best, and his staff is very friendly and professional. They answer all of my questions, and have always returned my calls in a timely manner. I would highly recommend them.

It was also suggested that I see Dr. Lane to help treat the necrosis if possible. He is also an excellent doctor. He prescribed infusion treatments, which have helped a great deal. They have built up the bones in my joints, and I feel much better. I am hoping that it strengthens them enough that I will not need additional joint surgeries.

I am very happy with these doctors. It is because of them that I can stand and walk without the pain that I suffered before. It has enabled me to go on a family vacation recently, which would not have been possible before.
