This week marks 29 weeks post op left hip labral repair surgery and I am running up to 40 minutes pain free!

I am a former collegiate and lifelong runner who had experienced high hamstring tendonitis and glute pain for at least 10 years. I tried almost everything from PT to massage to dry needling, which all helped, but then the pain always came back. I had an MRI four years ago in Boston, where they did identify a labral tear but said my symptoms did not match this find. So four more years of PT, massage etc. and finally, when I had to stop in the middle of a run because of the pain I contacted HSS and set up an appointment with Dr. Danyal Nawabi. I had heard from other runners that HSS was one of the best places in the country for hip labral repairs. After careful HSS bio research, I felt confident in Dr. Nawabi's expertise.

Dr. Nawabi was friendly, upfront and most importantly, meticulous in his diagnosis. My diagnosis: femoral acetabular impingement and torn labrum. He was confident that I was a good candidate, even at my age for a successful outcome. His careful approach only increased my confidence in his ability and my outcome. I scheduled surgery as soon as I could!

Surgery was successful and luckily I had very little discomfort. Not going to lie, it's a long recovery but I followed Dr. Nawabi's instructions and was walking normally, pain free at 6 weeks. In fact, I walked all around Manhattan after my 6 week check up!

For now, I am cross training along with running, careful not to cause tendonitis in the hip area. I am hopeful to resume my normal running within the year, which includes plans for a half marathon!
