It happened during a scrimmage game of my senior year in high school. I was the captain of my soccer team and was on the road to pursuing my dream of playing in college. But that all came to an end when a defender from the other team took me out and I heard that dreaded "pop" that no athlete wants to hear. I had torn my ACL and meniscus. With the surgery finished and being 6 months post-op I knew something was wrong and decided to get a second opinion from a different doctor. That is when I met Dr. Danyal Nawabi and I knew that I had made the right choice from that moment. After getting several tests, he told me that my graft had failed to take and that my meniscus was once again torn. We then scheduled an ACL revision with a meniscal repair surgery.
This was my 5th knee surgery in the span of 2 years. Being an athlete there is nothing worse then being sidelined by an injury , especially a torn ACL. This type of injury affects you not only physically but mentally as well. Spending months in physical therapy and constant check up visits is not what I pictured my freshmen year of college to look like. However, I am now 7 months post-op and although I am not fully recovered, and still going to PT, I am on the right track and closer than ever to getting back to the game I love. I have also been able to try out some new things such as skydiving, and I highly recommend it.
Therefore I would like to thank HSS, and especially Dr. Nawabi, for the amazing care they have provided. I have never met a physician that cares about his patients as much as Dr. Nawabi does. He always puts 110% into every appointment I have been to, and always makes sure that no questions I may have are left unanswered. I would also like to thank my physical therapist, who has played a huge role in my recovery and I couldn't be more grateful to him for that.
