I’ll start by saying, you should not let any doctor tell you how much pain is OK for you to live with. When it comes to considering knee replacement, it is a personal decision. You have to determine how much of your life is impacted by the pain, especially if alternative treatments aren't working, and whether any potential risks outweigh what you're dealing with. At the very least, have a consultation with an experienced, empathetic surgeon. As for me, I absolutely made the right decision in choosing to consult with a specialist, the specialist I chose, and deciding to have a partial knee replacement. I’m sure there are a lot of good surgeons around, but I landed on excellence. Both of the physical therapists I’ve used, other patients at the therapist’s office, and friends inquired as to what doctor I used, because they were amazed with the speed of recovery and the results. All I did was follow the pre- and post-surgery directions and exercises. As of this writing, I am 3 months post-surgery, and I returned to my usual activities last week. I played racquetball on Friday, volleyball on Saturday, and racquetball again on Monday. My legs feel so good on the court; it’s been a long time since I could do this comfortably, if at all. I am very satisfied with the care and communications I received from office personnel and grateful for my outcome. Thank you, Dr. McLawhorn and the team that assisted.
