I have had difficulties with my feet since I was very young. The wrong shoes or certain activities would cause me pain that didn't seem normal for a healthy and fit young person. By the time I was in my 30's the pain became much worse and I began wearing custom orthotics. The orthotics helped, but over time I required more and more support to alleviate the pain. I started with a simple slip-on ankle brace, then a taller, lace-up brace, and finally semi-rigid articulating braces that were necessary for me to even walk. Eventually, the pain became so bad that I knew I had to consider surgery. I had heard that HSS is one of the top orthopedic hospitals in the country and found my way to Dr. Demetracopoulos. HE. WAS. AMAZING! It was a long and difficult recovery, but I knew exactly what to expect at each step along the way. It's been a little over two years since the surgery and I am still in awe every time I get out of bed in the morning and have absolutely no pain in my feet. Before the surgery I could barely walk my dog to the end of the block because the pain was so bad, but now I can go hiking and be on my feet for hours without pain. Dr. Demetracopoulos and this surgery literally changed my life!
