New York has always been home, so signing with the Knicks in 2010 meant everything to me. Representing the city from 2010 to 2015 was something very special.
By 2013, I had to face something I had been trying to push through for a while. The wear and tear in my knee had caught up to me, and I was not performing the way I expect of myself.
At HSS, Dr. Allen took the time to explain exactly what was going on. Cartilage fragments had broken loose inside the joint, which was causing the swelling, pain, and mechanical issues I had been dealing with. Once we saw the full picture, it was clear that surgery was the right decision. He performed an arthroscopic procedure to remove the loose fragments and clean up the scar tissue. From our first conversation, I felt confident in the plan and comfortable putting my trust in him.
Recovery was where the real work started. My time at HSS during rehab was just as important as the surgery itself. I followed every instruction closely and approached each session with intention. There were tough days, but I treated rehab the same way I approach the game, with focus and discipline. Every workout had a purpose.
Two months later, on May 11, 2013, I stepped back onto the court feeling prepared and confident because I trusted the process.
If you want longevity in this game, rehab and recovery matter just as much as anything you do on the court. HSS did not just help me heal, but they helped me come back ready to perform at my best.
Once I retired, the Knicks welcomed me back through their alumni and ambassador programs, which has meant a great deal to my family and me. Staying connected to the organization after my playing days has been truly special. HSS played a major role in that next chapter. Working with Dr. Allen gave me the opportunity to recover fully and become the player I ultimately was. More than that, they cared about my long-term health. They were not just focused on getting me back on the court, but on making sure I would be healthy at sixty. I am grateful for the care they provided and for the impact it continues to have on my life.
