I feel so lucky that I found HSS, specifically, Dr. Bryan T. Kelly and his team to treat my hip injury. I found myself injured in February/March of 2017 with pretty acute pain in my right hip when squatting, moving my leg in and out of the car, etc. It came out of nowhere, but later I found out it was a hip impingement and, with all of the activity I had done, a labral tear. I was a dancer and soccer player and after I had done some fitness competitions, found my way to CrossFit, specifically in the last 4 years leading up to my injury. I had my first screening and MRI done with a local surgeon and learned that I had the impingement and the tear. From there, I learned what my options were, surgery or try to work around it, the latter of which I did for about 2 months. I soon realized that this was not possible due to the level of training that I did and wanted to continue to do in CrossFit and my everyday life. This was not great as the pain was becoming worse and worse. I was afraid of the surgery, but when I realized that I needed to consider it, I researched and went to the best hospital and surgeon and wound up at Dr. Kelly's office. His team is amazing, the hospital is incredible, and the entire process went very smoothly. The difference in the diagnosis, the education that you get, and the preparation that they help you do is unlike anything you can imagine and it puts your mind at ease and allows you to fully trust the team and hospital.

We immediately scheduled the surgery as my case was very straightforward and looked like the outcome would be exactly what I wanted - back at my sport within 6 months and 12 months for a full recovery. I was moving and doing my PT the day after my surgery and the recovery was incredibly smooth. I woke up from surgery and had no pain, and the next day I had no pain - my hip pain was instantly gone (yes there is some post-surgery soreness but that was it). I was back to CrossFit within 5 months with pretty good mobility already although I was careful and not pushing beyond what the doctor and my PT recommended. At the 6 month mark my mobility was great and I added more training in and by 7-8 months I was doing everything that I used to do in CF workouts -

box jumps, full range squats, lunges, running, and plyometrics all while working on getting all of my skills and strength back. None of that would have been possible prior to surgery and with the state of my injury so I am thankful every day for Dr. Bryan Kelly for saving my CrossFit career and keeping me happy. I am not only back to CF full-time, I am a coach now (which was put on hold when I was injured) and I am loving it. At 11 months post-surgery I can say that I am back pretty close to 100 percent (still building my strength numbers back a bit more) and more importantly I am pain-free and my hip is feeling great.
