As a former professional dancer, I sustained multiple dislocations of my right shoulder which eventually led to a diagnosis of osteoarthritis. Physical therapy was very helpful at stabilizing the shoulder, especially under the expert guidance of Jessica Hettler. However, I was losing range of motion year by year as the pain levels increased. Steroid injections only muffled the pain. I work in fitness and also maintain an active yoga practice. I have had to stop any activity for the last 5 months as the pain just became unbearable. I was unable to lift my arm above my head, among other things, severely limiting my daily activities. Dr. Milani and his team took their time in evaluating my situation and he eventually connected me to a clinical trial of PRP injection in the shoulder, conducted by Dr. Kirschner.
I received the treatment exactly a month ago not knowing whether I'd be in the placebo control group or not. Later the same day I went for a light workout as Dr. Kirschner had recommended. I simply cannot describe what happened, and it took a while to sink in: I was free of pain and, for the first time in at least 10 years, I was able to lift light weights above my head. Getting into "downward dog" actually felt good. My right arm has regained 90% of its range of motion. I am able to do household chores I learned to avoid due to the pain. Window washing and vacuming with my dominant hand are no longer a problem.
I am giddy with joy and filled with gratitude towards this amazing team and the work they do to help people get Back in the Game.
