At a relatively young age I started having issues with both my knees due to injury. As I got older, while still staying active, my knees got worse, developing severe osteoarthritis. Finally at age 50 I decided I had enough. I always knew that when the time was right, I would seek out a physician at Hospital for Special Surgery. Finding Dr. Haas, chairman of the knee service, was such a blessing. Right from the beginning he understood that I wanted to get back to being active and I wanted to have both my knees replaced at the same time. After considering my age, the degeneration in my knees and the fact that I had recently lost a significant amount of weight, Dr. Haas agreed to perform a bilateral total knee replacement surgery. On December 9, 2015 I had my surgery and remained at HSS for 4 nights. The hospital, physicians, physical therapists, nurses, aides and anyone else that I encountered were the most professional people I could have hoped to have take care of me. Upon discharge, HSS also assisted in setting up rehabilitation at my home since I did not wish to go to a skilled nursing facility. My experience with HSS was phenomenal. Having both my knees replaced was the best decision I have ever made. It improved my quality of life! If you are considering joint replacement surgery, look no further than finding your physician and performing your surgery at HSS.
