October 2024 - While playing in a travel softball tournament, Abby experienced pain, numbness, and tingling after hitting the ball and being unable to run down to first base. At that point we pursued chiropractic services with no improvement.
November 2024 - Consultation with an orthopedic surgeon in New Jersey resulted in Abby being placed in a brace. The goal was to reduce the significant inflammation and allow for fractures to heal.
February 2025 - Brace discontinued with no improvement in fractures or hope that they would heal on their own. Non-surgical recommendation was to pursue physical therapy to help with pain.
March 2025 - Physical Therapy
April 2025 - Appointment with Dr. Qureshi. At the appointment Dr. Qureshi walked in, introduced himself as Sheeraz and spoke directly to Abby, taking his time to clearly explaining everything to her as well as entertain all her questions. As an expert in minimally invasive spine surgery, he did recommend surgery with the goal to alleviate her pain and get her back to playing sports. She actually was a three-sport athlete - soccer, wrestling, softball - before being sidelined for 6 months. Most importantly, he thanked her for allowing him to help her!
April 28,2025 - Bilateral L5 ORIF completed with an overnight stay in the hospital.
May 31,2025 - Rehab begins.
July 19,2025 - Back to playing softball.
Abby continues to rehab and train to return to her pre-injury state. She no longer experiences the pain she had before surgery. She continues to have follow up appointments with Dr. Qureshi. Dr. Qureshi and his entire team have been nothing short of wonderful. Their responsiveness and care throughout this journey have been tremendous. There really are no words to express the gratitude we have as a family and the smile back on Abby’s face.
